About Natchez Ballet Academy, LLC

Meet Our Instructor

ALICIA S. HAVARD OWNER/ ARTISTIC DIRECTOR /CHOREOGRAPHER . Mrs. H(Mrs. Alicia) is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and a Masters degree in Physical Education from Alcorn State University. She is a retired school teacher from the Natchez-Adams School District with 28 years of experience. Alicia has been dancing since the age of 3, was a Cheerleader in high school and a Dixie Darling at USM. Her previous dance experience includes performances with Carolyn Boykin School of Dance, Middleton School of Dance, Natchez Ballet Academy, and Martha Hootsell School of Dance. While dancing at Martha Hootsell School of Dance, under the direction of Cynthia Jones, she performed in the Historic Natchez Tableaux in Audubon. She is married to David Havard and has one son, Landon Havard.



Mission Statement

The primary purpose of Natchez Ballet Academy is to provide students with quality training in the Art of Dance while inspiring them to become confident members of society. Our students develop motor skills, performance skills, and knowledge of Ballet technique, Tap, Jazz and Modern/Lyrical basics, the histories of these genres of Dance, as well as a base for healthy living that will stay them throughout life. They are given a foundation for building self-confidence, social skills, and the self-discipline necessary for success in whatever they set out to accomplish.

Tuition is not based on attendance.

Performance Fees:

Includes:  Two (2) costumes, accessories, tights, a class t-shirt

  • $185 per performance (2) plus an additional $70 per costume for other classes
  • Spring performance fee due by January 15.
  • IF YOU DECIDE NOT TO PARTICIPATE AND COSTUMES, T-SHIRTS AND TIGHTS HAVE BEEN ORDERED, YOU WILL NOT receive a REFUND

Natchez Ballet Academy Etiquette and Policies:

Welcome to Our Studio

All students are required to have hair properly secured for class.  Long hair should be in a bun, short hair secured with cloth headbands.  (No plastic headbands, ponytails, or plastic clippies!)  Students without buns must observe class.  This rule will be enforced in all classes.

Rules of the Studio

Please be on time for class.  Students should arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start of class to change clothes, put on shoes, and prepare for class.  The first ten minutes of a ballet class are very important.  Students arriving more than 15 minutes late for class will be required to observe.

  1. Parents, please write your child’s name on their things.  This includes bags, shoes, skirts, jackets, etc.  This is especially important with Pre-K through 2nd grades.
  2. Cell phones are not allowed in class or rehearsals.  They must be turned OFF before class or rehearsal begins.  NO EXCEPTIONS!
  3. Absolutely NO gum allowed in class or rehearsal!
  4. NO FOOD OR DRINK EXCEPT BOTTLED WATER ALLOWED IN THE WAITING AREA, DRESSING ROOM, OR STUDIO!

  1. NO TALKING IN CLASS!  If a student cannot adhere to this rule, he/she will be required to observe, and parents will be notified.
  2. No student should ever correct or criticize or critique another student.  This is the job of the instructor only.  Any student who does so will be required to observe.
  3. Pre-Ballet, Ballet I and Ballet 2 students will be instructed to wait inside the studio for someone to pick them up after class.  Please don’t walk into the studio to pick up unless you have an emergency.  And, please do not tell your children to walk outside to your car.  
  4. Please do not wear street shoes on the studio floor.  
  5. Horseplay or any activity that may cause harm to other students or self will not be tolerated.  No running, climbing on barres, pushing, hitting, etc.  Students engaging in these activities will be required to observe.
  6. In the event of inclement weather, Natchez Ballet Academy will follow the lead of the local schools.  If schools are closed, we will also be closed.  Make-up classes will be announced when necessary. 
  7. If we are closed for any reason, all students are welcome to attend the next level class to make up for the missed session.  Ballet 4 students are welcome in Ballet 3.
  8. Please do not enter the studio if you hear music playing.   If you are late for class, please wait until the music stops before entering the studio space.  This applies to students waiting for their classes.  Wait for your class to begin in the dressing room.
  9. There is a TV in the lobby area for parents to observe classes while in session.  Please do not enter the studio unless you have an emergency.  Please do not enter the studio if you hear music playing.  
  10. Attendance is important, especially during performance times.  Excessive absences result in poor performances.  Please be here as often as possible to ensure your child is confident and secure in his/her experience at Natchez Ballet Academy.
  11. Anti-Bullying Policy:
  12. Natchez Ballet Academy is committed to providing a safe, positive learning environment for students.  Bullying of any kind will not be tolerated.
  13. Bullying is the intentional harmful (electronic, written, verbal, non-verbal, psychological or physical) act or series of acts that is directed at another person, in and/or outside of the studio setting. 
  14. Upon receipt of a complaint, the students involved will be asked separately to meet with myself and parents to investigate the reported allegations.  If confirmed, the student who violates this policy shall be subject to the following:

I  First Offense:  Documented warning and meeting with parents

Ii. Second Offense:  Meeting with parents, loss of privileges.

iii. Third Offense:  Meeting with parents, expulsion.
